October Mountain Products Bows?
« on: June 10, 2012, 10:36:00 PM »
Good evening;

Does anyone have any experience with these bows?

  http://insight.octmtn.com/templates/pricelist.aspx?GroupGuid=58114

I'm going to need to upgrade the bow that I have, and money is tight (and I want a backup plan in case I can't find something in the classifieds when the time comes).

Thanks,
D

Havn't looked at them in a couple of years. When they first came out the workmanship was fairly crude. I saw them at the ATA Show and wasn't impressed.

Can't say what they look like now. Maybe things have changed.

When I wanted to buy a low priced longbow I looked into the OMP and Greatree. Both are similar in spec and price. I did not get to see either in person and eventually decided on the Greatree Solo Black because of a clearance sale at 3Rivers ($144).

What I received was way better than I expected! At 68" long, 45# @ 28", I couldn't ask for a nicer shooting longbow at any price. I reshaped the grip with a rasp, electrical tape, and a rubber sleeve grip. I shoot 1816 alum arrows from it and getting perfect flight. I've killed small game with it but no shots at deer yet.

I have custom bows costing several hundred dollars more hanging on the rack and my Greatree gets most of the action.

I understand the bamboo version has had some delamination issues but to my knowledge the Solo Black has had none.

I know you asked about the OMP but maybe this could be an option for you. Good Luck!

Good Evening;

Thanks for all the info.  I'm not stuck on OMP stuff, I just found them as an economical option.  I'll be looking into Greatree.

Thanks,
D

I would'nt call the OMP an upgrade from anything. Very crude workmanship,shoot OK I guess, but prone to delamination problems. I have one hanging in the basement with a delam riser that I need to get around to. Much better choices out there: Maddog, Omega, Black Rhino, even Bear Montana.
