Didn't want to hyjack previous thread so I have a question on woodies.

I just came back from a shoot this weekend and the wooden arrow is nipping at my heals again.  Just can't get comfortable pulling the trigger when the Heritage 150's work so well.  Anyway, I have a 47# @ 25 1/2" Toelke Super D longbow.

I want to shoot 190 simmons blades if i get them.  What spine should I buy.  Looking for a 27" or so arrow.  Cedar or sitka spruce.  From what I gather, the material makes a difference.

Fred, I bought some used arrows that I was told were spined 50-55. I have two, with no points. They are fletched and I believe cut to 28 1/2". You are welcome to try a 195 gr point on them if you want. But I think 195 will be too heavy for these. I'm shooting 125 gr points out of a 45lb bow.

That might work Kook.  I'll let you know based on some answers I get here.

50-55# might work, but with that heavy of a head, I'd opt for 55#-60#, maybe even heavier.  Sitka spruce is physically a tad lighter than cedar generally.  Both are very good woods.  Doug fir is is also very good and generally a bit heavier. Very little difference in how they shoot, if the same diameter, spine and weight.

Assuming that your Tolke is cut to center and wearing a hard string, I came up with 62 lb.  With 47 lb and 27" BOP, you might be able to lower that estimate a couple of pounds.

Sitka, POC and D Fir will all shoot the same spine as long as the weights are similar.  What kind of final arrow weight are you looking for?
