Wow! What a Father's Day gift!
« on: June 16, 2012, 09:15:00 PM »
A number of years ago my son Jay (JJB on here) inherited a '69 Bear black phenolic Super Kodiak from my wife's dad.  What a nice looking bow!

I think Jay has noticed me picking up this bow over and over from his collection of vintage bows.  Anyway, Jay contacted Terry from The Footed Shaft in Rochester, MN to talk about a Super Kodiak that he had seen there.

This bow belonged to the late Lamont Granger, former owner of The Footed Shaft and hung in his shop.  Lamont thought the '69 Bear Super Kodiaks were the best one piece bows that Bear had made.

Jay met with Terry at the Chippewa Falls, WI trad shoot a couple of weeks ago and purchased the bow.  He surprised me with the gift a week ago.

All I can say is WOW!  Jay's bow is 50#, and my "new" bow is 45#.  He posted a picture of the two bows in the Trad History/Collecting Forum in the Bear Black Phenolic Super Kodiak post.

Thanks again Jay!  What a gift!

Nice, bet that was on that hung on the ceiling in The Footed Shaft, he had a lot on the ceiling, it was always fun to see. His favorite was a bow you could Shoot, right or left handed.

When a son turns out to be that thoughtful, it makes you realize that all the hard work you did trying to raise him right worked out as planned.

That kind of thoughtfulness makes you realize you were lucky enough to have great raw material to work with and somehow, again a tribute to the kid, not all of the stupid things we all managed to do messed things up.  Having a great son or daughter is a two way street.  Congratulations to you both.
