I agree that is too much wear for that number of shots. How is your release? If you are opening your fingers and letting the string slide off that would account for the wear. Using a release technique where your relax your fingers so the string pushes them out of the way will reduce the wear and I suspect stop the "burn" you might be feeling in your finger tips. Just a thought.
You can order a replacement for that worm leather, and like above, I'd recommend the cordovan. I have cordovan tabs that are 40 years old and still going strong. By the way, cordovan does best with benign neglect. Do not "oil," "grease," or "powder" the leather. Just keep it clean and dry and it will last forever.
