Pin Knots and Osage
«
on:

I am working on roughing out an osage stave, and have found that in 2 place, I have pin knots that have fallen at the edge of the limb. They kind of run at an angle towards the belly, so narrowing the limb won't get rid of them. Should I even worry about them? I really don't want to wrap with sinew, unless I have no other choice. If I do have to wrap, should I take an precautions while tillering before I wrap the area?

What's the diameter of these knots?? Less than 1/4" I wouldn't worry. Got any pictures?

I haven't ever had a problem with pin knots.The only time I concern myself with them is when I'm chasing a ring.If the ring humps at the pins,carefully follow the hump.

I have osage selfbows that have cracks running with the grain and a couple with knots and knot holes going completly through the limb and they shoot fine.
Osage is the Best selfbow wood!

Pin knot sh'pin knot!!! Osage can handle a knot or knot hole.
Before;
After;
More pics same knot;
Don't know why I was drawing the bow right when I am left? The string must have lined up better on that side of the handle and I wanted the knot on the bottom limb,,, I geuss. This bow is still shooting after a year or more.
