Chundoo arrows...pics.
« on: August 03, 2007, 01:41:00 PM »
A while ago I posted pics of some shafts I picked up for a really great price in the hopes that someone could help me ID them. That happened quickly. Chundoo I was told.
Since picking them up I have been itching to build arrows. A step here, a step there...I finally got tired of waiting and built one this morning.
28" BOP, spined at 52#, 3 RW 5" parabolics. I used a bohning dip, minwax stain, and minwax poly. Got impatient, so I used crazy glue gel on this one, my stumper. I will wait to do the others until I get some duco.
I had some issues...but that is why I like building arrows....learn something each time. The poly "erased" my silver cresting on most of em. When I finish though I will have a dozen, six tipped with my Father's old bear razorheads, five with fieldpoints and one with a judo. Let me know what you guys think of my fourth set of arrows. I will post more when the entire dozen is fletched up. Cant wait to take em out into the woods.

Wow, that is one fine looking wood arrow. And since it's chundoo, it should give you more serve you longer than those cedars you went through...

Jamie, just be careful, Bohning does not go good with the min-wax, ya may get bleed-thru or running.  Call me, I want to see if ya want to ride to the Muzzy with me or what. Shawn

We can set up a ride....Damon you and I?? I used Bohning for the cresting dip, and polyed over it. No bleed through there....but the poly took of my other decorations...lol. Live and learn. Dont have to be that purdy as long as they fly great.

Damon is camping, so just you and I, I will call ya!! Shooting wood at the Muzzy? Bring lots of them, it is the toughest shoot I have ever seen on arrows. I shot with a guy who had 2 dozen woodies to qualify, he broke 9 with me. I shot agaist him in a later round, he was picking up bent aluminum and shooting it, not funny he beat me! Shawn

Here are the rest....played with the fletching....different colors, a couple with LW, see which heads fly best, etc. I lost one to the broken arrow shoot at the muzzy....gave up the ghost at target 13 or something like that.....took some decent abuse before it failed though. Hopefully the next pic of any of these will be frothy and red.

I use Minwax poly and Duco.  Bohning is formulated to be used with their FletchTite.

Great looking arrows Jamie; try one of those homemade star washer judo points.

Yes Brian, as far as I know anyway.
Thats one of my next projects Tim...making a ton of bunny hunt points. LOL.
I used Poly over the bohning dip with no ill effects. I then used duco to fletch, and was very happy with that stuff.
They didnt come out as pretty as I wanted, but they all fly great, even the ones with the large magnus heads. I would take a straight shooter over a pretty arrow any day.
