I got problems tuning my Griffin

64" Griffin marked 49@28" I draw 30"

Been trying to tune 55-75 Gold Tip full length with regular inserts.

I'd like to shoot Big Jim's Big 3 this year. Tried bareshafting with cut 2 arrows all threat down to 30.25"..... Showed weak the whole time.  I don't have a good release to say the least so I usually let bare shafts get me close and then fletch them up. Has worked in years past..... Not now      

Then I thought I'll try to paper tune.  Best I can get is about about 1-1.5" tear that shows the fletch hitting upper left. I have moved my nock point from 1 inch to .25 and don't see much of a difference.

I thought well that's close. Let's see how the fly at 20 yards. Corkscrew the whole way. Tried 4 fletch at 90 and 75/120 no change. Tried 3 fletch with cockfeather up, in, and out. No change. All 5" feathers.

Now I'm just plain lost because I haven't had this problem before.

The best paper tune came with full length shafts with 125g on the end.

5575 sound a bit stiff imo...I would bare shaft them first before paper tuning.

Just for giggles, put an extra piece of Velcro, or whatever material you use, on the strikeplate to build it out and see what happens.

I shoot nearly full length heritage 250 with 145 grain points out of my 50@28 griffin 60" bow.  Draw 29".

I shoot full length Traditional Goldtips (35/55 shafts)with 100 grain brass inserts and 175 grain tips. They paper tune just fine out of my Griffins at 54lbs@28". No problems. I draw 29" and they work just fine. The 55/75 shafts are probably too stiff. Try a 125 head and work downward from there. Hope this helps.

Do you have a nock point under your arrow? Could be your tracking off your shelf material. What point weight are you shooting? I would think you would get it tuned with that shaft.  Always weak makes me think it is kicking of the shelf or way stiff and you just have not got enough weight up front yet.  one of the two or both have been my problem with what you describe.

Also what is the center cut on your bow?

The 5575's are probably not too stiff and on top of that, you will require a slightly stiffer shaft to shoot the BigJim broadheads due to there extra large size.

Ok Jim I went back to my full length shafts yesterday and you were right.  They were very close bareshafting them. Cut 1/2" off and put the BIG 3 on along with some 5" feathers to take a look..... after about 10 shots with it I have a fist size hole in my Block target!!!!
