Archery Games
« on: June 28, 2012, 09:30:00 PM »
During the winter I shoot almost exclusively at a club once a week. I find that the longer I just go to the line and shoot-shoot-shoot the worse my form and accuracy get. On top of that, me and some of the other bowhunting-oriented guys sometimes get bored.

I'm looking to spice things up a bit. Any of you guys have little fun 'games' that you play that hone your shooting skills? I've heard of playing poker (not sure how that would work - shoot for the best hand I guess). Are there any other ideas out there? I thought of Tic-Tac-Toe, but that might be too simple...

Any ideas appreciated!

I've seen dart board targets and actually played archery darts a few times. It is pretty fun. You play just like darts where you start at 501 ann have to go down to zero. When you get close you have to shoot a double to go out.

Try a game of archery tic-tac-toe.  That can be fun with two people.

Get some stuffed animals from a yard sale and place them in difficult shooting spots(smaller animals the better) and have at it.

Ping Pong and tennis balls suspended from a tree limb. Take a basket ball you don't like any more and throw it to different distances. Use a judo point to hit it. Now, if by chance someone's arrow gets broken, everyone will have a laugh. Well not everyone...

The game is kill your buddy's arrow. I have thrown a couple of arrows away but was entertained quite a bit. I don't do this often. (:

We have hung string/yarn on the target faces and tried to cut it with field points. You can make a cross hair on target out of string/yarn and try to cut both with one shot. Balloon popping never gets old. Make two rows of 3-4 balloons and have a shoot off against someone. First to pop all wins.

Lots of different things to do at an indoor range to keep it fun.
