I recently completed assembling some new aluminum alloy arrows and I used a trick from my reloading experience to make life easier.

Come on, I know you are still out there!
You used to hide in the shadows, embarrassed by your buddies' ribbing that you are still living in the sixties because you don't use the latest and greatest carbon composite shafts advertised by Sam and Betsy, until they saw your groups on the target. You still don't mention the fact in public because alloy shafts, like the embarrassment of psoriasis, are just too much to explain to perfect strangers.

Anyway, I used a case chamfer and deburr tool to dress the point end of the shaft after using the G-5 squaring tool. The inserts fit so nicely and afterward the exterior of the shaft was perfectly flush with the outer diameter of the insert.

A final squaring of the insert after installation produced perfect point alignment on the shaft spinner.

Killdeer

I use it to prepare sleeves for my carbons.

iohkus

Used one of them "thangs" (as a friend of mine used to say)  "since Hector was a pup"

Hmmmmm. I know you think you understand what you thought I said, but I'm
not sure that what you heard is what I actually meant!

Jon Stewart

Been using a counter sink bit for many years on my aluminums.

cbCrow

I cn't remember how long I've used one for that but I think its a great tip for some of the newer guys here!

Roadkill

Mine jumps from reloading to arrow side of the bench like it knows it belongs in both places.
Cast a long shadow-you may provide shade to someone who needs it.  Semper Fi

Tree Rat

Just remember to be careful. Too much deburring and you will angle the whole inside of the shaft  and your inserts will drive up in the shaft. You need a good square edge for the inserts to work properly.

That's another good reson for using a squaring device afterward.

Orion

Think it would work on carbons as well if used very gently?

iohkus

I've used it with no problem.

I've even used it on turkey wing bones when making calls. Seems it's almost as useful as duct tape.

Outwest

I have been doin that exact same procedure ever since they came out with the squaring device.
Sure helps make the broadheads spin true.
