I made up 9 to take to Hawaii next month, then decided another 6 were in order.  Only because the steel deer target dwindled my supply to 7.  The only way to tell if your ready is to go to the range and try "the make it or break it shot".  I wasn't ready, but I will be.  

I will have a minimum of a dozen when I go.  With just one with a judo tip, the rest will be tipped with KME sharp Eclipse heads.

I once fell out west hunting elk and wiped out a number of arrows.  After that I vowed to carry my arrows in a hard-sided quiver.  The quiver had 6 arrows in and I was lucky enough that one was not damaged.  I carry 6 total in my quiver and bring 6 more into camp with me.
