On a positive note?

Just wondering if it is important to you to end a round of shooting on a positive note?

3 days ago, I had one of my best rounds of practice I've ever had.  I felt like a million bucks with regards to my shooting ability.

Just wondering if that is important to you.

Yep, I always try to end on a good shot or series of shots. Positive reinforcement is never a bad thing.

Yes Sir, I always try to end on a positive shot, confidence is one of your greatest allies in the sport.

I always end my practice sessions with a "go-home-group". Sometimes I have to really concentrate to get 3 or 4 very clean shots that are in a tight group after I have been shooting for a while. I just can not stand to quit on a bad shot!

Finished an "ok" practice session yesterday. My last shot was a 50 yard long shot just for kicks. I nailed the 10 ring on my practice deer. I am still grinning about that one! If I quit on a bad shot it nags me until I redeem myself.

Since I only shoot one arrow at a time, if I shoot too long and start getting tired, my arrow starts to "wander off" and that's when I quit. I don't wait for a good shot to quit.

Yes, when I can I like to end on a positive shot.  Sometimes when I drill a particularly good one, I'll stop right there.  Other times, when I'm really off, I'll just quit and bag it for the day.  I'm pretty forgetfull, so I usually don't have too many lasting effects either way.  I forget lots of other things too.    :rolleyes:

I've heard that this is actually counter-productive but I have always tried to finish a shooting session with a "minimum score".  I know that I am capable enough, so I always push myself to "finish".  But as I said previously, I have heard that this is not the preferred way to do things from shooting experts.  Why?  I really don't know, but it is the way I have always done things...

I do not practice. I just go play with my bow that way its always fun.

I always end up on a good shot. I think it is most important if the overall day of shooting has been bad. It is a reminder that it will get better next time out.

Absolutely, particularly if it was a long and/or dificult shot. Read about this aspect of practice from some well known authority ( but can't rember exactly who, so won't drop any names) and have used it for quite some time. I'm sure it's just a mental thing, but I need all the help I can get!

It is good to end with any athletic activity a positive mental and physical imprint in your mind.

I like to each session with a great shot.

If you shoot a group, pull your best arrow last and take a mental snapshot of it.

The practice in baseball of ending each player's batting practice time with a line drive is an example of this idea.
