« on: August 04, 2007, 12:35:00 AM »
I`m looking for a cover scent that has`nt been made for a few years now,but thought someone might know where some was.It was originally called Skunk Skreen then changed to Skunk Coverscent. It was made by Tex Isbel of College Station,Texas. It came in two parts, neither had any oder, but when mixed, smelled like skunk.

To my knowledge, it isn't available anymore. I personally know a fella who bought a case of it when they weren't going to be making it anymore. He doesn't have much left. I couldn't stand being in the same area as that stuff!

I used to use pure skunk essence when calling coyotes. I kept it in a small glass bottle in a leather sack to protect it. Just screw the cap off and set down wind.

I have witnesses to how it works. A couple times when camping in the mountains, I'd set the bottle on the hood of the pickup, top off. When my dog would go to growling in the middle of the night I'd sick her and listen for deer bouncing or elk crashing. I'd screw the capback on about midnight to get some sleep. pretty entertaining.

Anyone wanting instuctions on how to get the pure stuff just send me a PM ( most the stuff you buy is tintured or chemicaly made)

I`ve used it for as long as Tex made it.I only have a 1/4 case left and am getting worried.I tracked his daughter down to California and talked to her.She said they might get back to producing it.They were having a hard time getting one of the chemical they needed so they had quit for now.I had used Burnham Bros. pure skunk before this. You cant have any mistakes with it, or you`ve got a problem.Tex`s scent was the best cover scent I`ve ever used.

I never saw a single animal while wearing skunk screen. They don't want to be sprayed anymore than we do! I also had a hard time getting into the house for supper too!!

I never had any luck with it either NY Yankee.A skunk only sprays when it's threatened, and I'm sure other animals pick up on that.I've been using coon pee for years with great results. Leland
