Starting knock point
« on: July 07, 2012, 10:12:00 PM »
My bowstring suddenly busted and I didn't not record my setup.  Where is the best nock position to start the tuning process?  Any suggestions would be a great help.

Nock point for split or 3 under? 3 under I start at 9/16" high. Been so long, I can't remember what I set-up for split.

I shoot a tab and split finger. My suggestion is to start at 1/2 inch. My longbows, are all set at 7/16".  My recurves are 1/2" - 5/8".  This is what works for me. Yours might be similar or possibily a bit more higher.

my custom bows seem to like a high nock point, basically 9/16 to 5/8", the ILF bow I bought recently likes a much lower around 1/4" and this is using split finger

I often start 3/8 above ( Longbow ) using a crimp on nock. Crimp it only lightly so you can easily move it until you hit the right spot. Pretty simple way to do it IMO.

FWIW, I usually use 1/2" and go from there.
