Practice when its dark
« on: July 14, 2012, 10:15:00 PM »
I just came in from shooting about 50 rounds in the dark with nothing illuminated but the target with a rechargeable light, it sure makes you put your game face on. Ive found that for me, it really helps me to clean up my form as well as forcing me to shoot the target and not so much the bow. Anybody else practice in the dark?

I have in the past. The way the lights are on the back of my house, it gives my range pretty good lighting. I might start shooting again at night if it doesn't start to cool off.   :archer:

If no wind, put a candle 36" in front of the target. Shoot the flame.

I do it. It helps a lot with confdence and making you trust your instinct.  Illuminate only the target.   Seriously tightens up the groups.  Bout time to start again.  God Bless

I do too, it forces me to concentrate on where I want to hit & not watch the arrow.

I do too, it forces me to pick a point and focus on my target.

I've put a piece of aluminum foil on the bale to catch and reflect light before.

I shot practically every night. I set my target where it's lit by the porch light and shoot at it from the shadows.

Roy "Mudd" Williams turned me on to the candle concept. But, he forgot to mention the 36" rule.

And, I am a little on the slow side. So, the first arrow was dead on but a tad high.

Nothing so beautiful as watching your $10 Wood Arrow catch fire in the dark of night.

I shoot in the dark after almost every night shift that I work. I too use the rechargeable light in front of the target.

Raging Waters,  wood and feathers burn?  LOL.

That had to be hard not to laugh, even though it cost you in the wallet.

Glad you mentioned it Matt. I can be a little slow at times also. I bet the look on your face was priceless.

I started shooting at night when my wife and daughters started watching "American idol" on Tv.I couldn't even stand listening to it from another room,so I took a bow and went outside.
My back porch light hits the target and when I stand on the sidewalk the streetlight is on me,it's a 22 yard shot. It's also nice to be able to shoot at night when the daytime temps are 90-100.

I usually practice until its too dark to see.  I thought that meant I could shoot hogs in the moonlight.............wrong.  Its really tuff to pic a spot on black hogs in the moonlight.
