Ryan had seen some hogs but didn't see one he wanted to shoot. He had a shot a small one in June and wanted something a little bigger this time.
Monday night was basically a washout, we only had about an hour on stand because of the rain.
Often following periods of heavy rain(it softens the ground) the hogs will do more rooting and come less to feeders.

No sightings at all Tuesday morning either.
I did get some small game shooting in and had a great time hunting with two very knowlegeable bowyers and hunters.
Here is a short clip of my small game hunt:Just click on the picture.

The videos are a lot clearer on my Youtube channel:
True South Adventures Inc.

Looking forward to the next hunt with Ryan and Billy, besides having fun, I always learn a lot from guys like that.

True South Adventures Inc.
is now offering a Very Small Game 7 day combo hunt.
Wood rat, vole, mole, field mouse, city mouse, tree rat(in season).
We are the only outfitter in Florida offering this package. Remember, these are free range, fair chase hunts,(no circular treadmills or very low fences).*these hunts are filling fast, check web-site for absurdly high pricing. This rat is at the taxidermist now(of course).

Look at that shot placement!!!

Aside from carrying the plague and being creepy (see Willard reference above) I bet they'd taste like squirrel   :)   Fried up in some bacon fat with a little flower, salt, pepper. I can see it now: fried rat, gravy and biscuits.

Sign me up Jim! Don't want one of them low-fence, high-dollar treadmill rodent hunts. Fair chase is the only way to take very small game    :saywhat:

Are raccoons a nuisance there? I thought most states considered them furbearers? He looked like the young of the year.

Yes. Besides killing the neighbors chickens and hand spinning the feeders all night for hogs(corn is $11.50 a bag here).
They also pull wires out of feeder heads and carry disease(I've personally shot two that were sick).I recently had one client that saw six raccoons while on stand.
There is open season for them in Florida on private land. No predators mess with them other than humans. When you are an outfitter your opinion changes(or is reinforced) when they are costing you money, plus they are fun to hunt.

Bill, I hear you, I wonder about my hog luck, too sometimes.
