"GREAT MOMENTS"
« on: July 25, 2012, 01:35:00 PM »
Had posted a Fatherly Advice thread earlier which lead me into starting this thread and thought others might have some good moments to share.

Over the last couple of sunday Schools we have been talking about great moments we have been blessed with.  many have shared, getting married, birth of children, etc.  Luckily I have been blessed with these moments, but I have also been blessed with what is quite possibly one of the most talented frog catching youngins ever born.

I have 2 sons.  6.5 and 2.5 years old.  On their 2nd birthday they each recieved a little custom recurve from Mom and Dad from Elk Ridge Archery (good folks I might add).  The 6.5 year old has been flingin arrows with dad for some time, the 2.5 year old is gettin where he can knock an arrow on his own.  2 evenings ago we were out doing a little shooting, more so 6.5 shooting and me helping little man.  Then the oldest turned into the archery coach and took a seat on the little stool that I have sit on numerous times and told the little one to come over there and stand between his legs and he would help him just like I had done so many times before with him.  I just sat back and watched and big brother helped little man work on knocking arrow, extending bow arm, solid anchor, pick a spot, release.  Then it went into safety has he showed him how to pull the arrow out of target, how to hold it as he walked with it.  It was just awesome to watch and was a Great Moment.

By the end of the shooting the light was fading and the toad frogs started to stir.  When the frogs are out at the Daugherty house all other actions stop.  The oldest son (Brady) is to a toad frog what Troy is to a gator.  Brady had caught 3 or 4 and the youngest (Tanner) was just missing them when Brady said come on buddy let me show you how to do it and went into this strtegy about how you got to be real slow until you get real close and then you cant hold back and got to be quick with your hands.  Brady says sometimes if you can sneak up behind them you can put one hand in front of their eyes and then grab them right behind their head.  It was awesome and 2 great momemnts in one evening.  Older brother showing little brother how to shoot a recurve and how to catch frogs.  It wasn't just a few minutes that Tanner caught one, and told Brady thanks, and then ask him if he could shoot it with his bow.  Brady told him no buddy we can't shoot toad frogs with our bows, Daddy said they were not any good to eat, but he did say that we could shoot bull frogs.  At that time Tanner turns to me and says, "Daddy can we go shoot some bullfrogs"  Got to love it.
