15ish average.  Short as 3-4 yards, long as 32 or so.

Bears can attack people- although fewer people have been killed by bears than in all WWI and WWII combined.

Long 29 yards (mule deer), shortest 15 yards (elk). Average for big game just under 20 yards.

Ive killed 13 deer with a compound and they averaged around 18 yards ... when I dropped the "training wheels" it FORCED me to be a BETTER HUNTER and get real close. I have loosed 3 arrows with trad equipment and they were all inside 15 yards...oh yeah, forgot to mention that I've yet to harvest a deer with trad gear but I wouldn't go back to compounds for NOTHING. I'm having too much fun with the longbow !

I don't know exactly, but I'd say 15 steps or less.  My closest was about 6 steps, the longest was over 40. That one was hard to measure though, as I was in a ravine and the buck was walking down the trail on the other side. It looked a lot closer than it actually was.

when using a treestand I try to set myself up for a "close" shot..average shot for me is 12 yards, don't think I have ever shot past 18 yards in a treestand. I have shot hogs while stalking right at 20 yards. I know my limits..

my average is around 15 yards. My longest was 53 on a wounded deer that came running by me and stopped down the ridge. My shortest was 4 yards I've had several under 10 yards both from a tree and on the ground. I've missed a few under 5 yards I think from beening too high in a tree and not practicing from that height. So now my stands are a lot lower.

I try and setup for a 12yd shot and that's the distance most of the animals I shoot at are taken. Not too close and not too far.

I'm in the same boat. At 20 yards, I still have days where I'm pretty inconsistent. Hoping I can hone it in a bit more before the season, but seeing all these close averages makes me feel better. I shoot fairly well at 15 yards and in.
