bamboo slats for backing
« on: August 04, 2012, 08:50:00 PM »
Has anyone bought bamboo slats from an on-line company named Backyard X-scape?  They list bamboo slats 1.75 inches wide, 6"long, in bundles of 25 for $100.  Is this the stuff I'm looking for?

Tucco,

I'm not sure you want 6" pieces for a backing.  Usually a backing is one solid piece.  I'm assuming your referring to backing a bow.

If you post this question in the "Bowyers Bench" forum you may get a better response.  Good Luck!

Yeah, try the boywer's bench.  I'm assuming you meant to type 6' though.  It is what you want, but people on the bench may have experience with this company and can let you know if the quality of the boo is up to snuff.

I wouldn't scrimp on the boo. I have had a few failures and after that much work is disheartening to loose the bow.

If I wanted good bamboo I would get a hold of "Tenbrook" in the sponsors classifieds, he has an add for Ipe and Boo, good stuff.

I have had good luck with buying bamboo from online. The quality has been good and the price is right. Give it a shot and let us know your thoughts.

I'd have to know a lot more than what you describe. Diameter of the bamboo (bigger the diameter the flatter the slat) how far apart the nodes are ,what kind of bamboo , etc etc. I'd ask on the bowyer's forum, and might be a better deal there.

I saw the same bamboo for sale. It says it's Moso which is the same type of boo Bamboo and Rattan Works sells at over twice the price. I was thinking about ordering it too... just wasn't sure of the quality.
