Simmons Land Sharks. Noisey???
« on: August 10, 2012, 12:44:00 AM »
I haven't shot any Simmons Land Sharks.

Are the vented blades noisy in flight?

I am looking at the 125 grain, screw-in, 2 blades in particular.

Thanks, Skychief.

Ya know,....i started shooting Simmons tigersharks recently and love them. All of a sudden, i noticed a distinct hissing in flight. Probably because the wind has died down lately. I don't know if it'll hurt my shot opprotunities but it is definitely there.

Hmmm....

Thanks TxAg.   I found that Snuffers were hissers years ago.   That is what led to my question.    I guess any vented heads are prone to be noisier.

I have some of the 125gr and they don't have the vents in them. Mine are quiet in flight.

I've been shooting them since 1990 and in all that time, I've heard exactly ONE head have a hissing sound.  Think it may have been a tuning issue.

Any vented head has the potential to hiss or whistle in flight. This is usually do to one that is not perfectly straight on the arrow. There are a few things that can solve the problem. Some have already been mentioned but the one that works for me every time is to take a dremmel tool and slowly with a fine grit stone grind and smooth out any edges in the vents. You have to be careful not to let the head overheat though.

I have killed many many critters with the land sharks. I have never had one make noise. More than likely if you hear hissing it is another problem. Maybe a feather?

I know the hissing i'm hearing is the broadhead. It has been the same head over and over that i used for practice.  I will shoot the others when i get back from vacation to double check. I know my arrows are tuned well, but could be the head isn't seated properly. Thanks for the anecdotal evidence. I'll let yall know my findings

Land Sharks, quiet here.

I am shooting the 165 grain glue on tree sharks and I honestly expected to hear some noise based on the size of these heads but I have found them to be very quiet in flight.

Doesn't hurt a thing. My snuffers hiss and I kinda like it. It's the hiss of death! haven't had a deer get out of the way due to the hissing. A least not one that talked about it!

I have been shooting them for years they make a little noise but not enough to hurt any thing. Having them tuned properly will keep them quieter. I have stood to the side and listened to them (160 landsharks, Tigersharks glue on and screw in, Treesharks screwins, and 190 grain interceptors screw ins.)they all make a little noise but they kill deer, turkeys, and hogs just fine.LCH
