Arrow tuning today, very surprized!!

IM tuning out in the yard rite now. Shooting my black widow pch 50-51 lbs at my 29in draw. im using a 100gr brass insert and started with a 200gr point. i wanted to build a decently heavy hunting arrow. well i shoot and cut 1/4in off at a time and use points to experiment. im down to a 30in CX 250 and a 125 grain point and im still a little too weak. im really shocked at this, as most guys said a long 250 would be about rite with what i wanted to use. i wanted to use 175 or 200gr broadhead with the 100gr brass insert. so it looks like im goin to be going to a CX 350 arrow to try.

My 2016s at 28" are way weak out of my 51@26" NM. Never in a million years would I have guessed that

It often seems that a particular bow will just want what it wants. I have a 51 lb recurve and a 50 lb recurve and they will not shoot the same shaft no matter what I do. Just respect what the bow is telling you so you can get god arrow flight.

My PTF likes arrows that are supposed to be way too stiff, too.  I tried to force it to shoot the right spined shaft and about went nuts.  Shoot what your BW wants and enjoy.  Ron

No, the way the riser is made the back of the broadhead will be into my hand. fingers wrapped around a grip puts my fingers in front of the bow about 1/2 to 3/4 in. it need to be 29 3/4 or 30in for proper clearance of my fingers.

Black widows are well known for liking stiff arrows.  I'm finding my Toelke Chinooks are the same way, especially with a skinny string.

I would think the 250 would work fine for you. What method of tuning are you using?

bare shaft. i have my nock set slightly high on purpose and they are flying nock left and nock high. i can get them to shoot near perfect but i had to go clear down to a 100gr point. at 30in arrow, and thats not where i want to be. keep in mind im using a 100gr. brass insert. that would be about the same as me having a 50gr brass insert and using a 150 point but i want a 175gr point or 200 gr point so i can use non vented woodsman elites.

for some reason, arrows of the same spine and makeup don't always shoot the same.  i shoot a black widow psax 52#@27.5".  i shoot a 3rivers traditional only 400 shaft at 28.5", 150 gr head, 100 grain inserts with an 7" wrap and 5" feathers.  this arrow will shoot my bare shafts perfectly straight with extreme accuracy out to 40 yards (as a bare shaft!).  when i shoot a gold tip 5575 with the same components, the arrow shoots consisitently very weak.  even though these arrows are supposed to be the same spine and only have a difference of .2 grains per inch, they shoot completely different.

Better keep it a little under spined or you will be overspined once you put feathers on the arrow...

For a right hand shot, and the bareshaft flying nock right, isn't that sign of a stiff spine?

Widows all seem to like a stiifer arrow than other bows.  My PSA, even though light weight, requires a much heavier spine than other light weight reciurves I have owned. Mainly because it is shoting the arrow much harder.  God Bless

My buddy is shooting  a 56lb Black Widow recurve. He is using Heritage 250's. They are cut to 30 and 3/4 inches with 250 grains up front total.

Just an FYI for reference if it helps.
