Please help! Tuning?
« on: August 21, 2012, 09:52:00 PM »
Hey fellas, I just got a Jk traditions longbow, it's 58" and 46# @ 28. Love this little bow, so light and I really like the grip. I got some mfx classic 500 full length with the 75 grain insert and a 125 grain point. Shot and the arrow showed weak, ok so instead of cutting an arrow up I got one of my other  mfx that I use on my other bow with the same setup, but shorter and it's showing weak still? That doesn't seem right does it? So I go get my 56# longbow and shoot the arrow and it shoots great. When I don't get all the way to anchor it shows stiff, so what is the deal with my Jk bow? Could you tunning gurus please help me.I hope this makes sense

It sounds like you are trying to tune based on how a bareshaft flies. That is irrevelent and will cause nothing but headaches. The best way to tune is the bare shaft planning method as described here.  http://www.bowmaker.net/tuning.htm

How was it showing weak? Give us more info, tell us more about your set up. Is the JFK traditions cut to center or past center? What about your other longbow? How is it cut? Maybe some more
of the tuning gurus will chime in and give you some input.

The shaft was flying nock left and stuck in the target nock left. The Jk is cut to center, but my other bow is not.

I agree with JamesKerr except not to say that it's the best way but that it's the best way for me that I have found.

Sounds like you may have varying thicknesses of side plate material on your bows causing a difference in center cut measurement?

I have the same bow and I am getting excellent arrow flight out of MFX 500s but with slightly heavier draw weight than you describe but I also have a short draw length. See my signature below for my specs:

I shouldn't have said it is the best way only the best way in my opinion.
