I'm glad nothing happened, but it's an example of why there is a .38 in my pocket all the time....

Archie you showed matured composure. It only takes milliseconds to change a life forever and you made the right call.
Alabama has a "stand your ground law" so when he said the cops are after me I would of had one out of the quiver and on the string and by the second time he got out gimme (as in gimme your bow)I would have done had one loosed.
All kiddin aside I'm glad you and your family are OK.

Glad to know you did not have to defend yourself by force but very pleased to know you were willing to do so if necessary. I believe if you had actually put an arrow on the string, the situation would have escalated to a lethal confrontation. You handled it well.  But this should be a reminder to us all to be always vigilant, even moreso when in the boonies, where this incidednt may well have unfolded quite differently. Again, I am glad that nobody got hurt.

One of the things I used to teach in 20 years of martial arts training is that you cannot control how, when, or where someone will attack you.  You can only control how you respond.

Nice job avoiding escalating the situation, while considering options, if needed.

Shooting him would have been bad.  You probably would have lost your bow while the police "investigated."  Not good, thbis close to deer season!

Ugh... I don't even want to think about what could have happened, had I panicked and shot him.

I have never had to ask myself before, "Should I shoot this person?"

But it sure makes me think twice about running around in the dark now, even in my own backyard.

Archie,
Yep the Karate kid (Raging Water Matt) is always late to back us up in a situation like that but glad to hear things work out for ya....I think I would of told the fella to push the string outward as he drew ..If he was high on smokeweed he would of helped us taxpayers out by shooting himself and we wouldn't have to pay for his free room and board at the jail cell!  Matt if you are reading this I was high on    :scared:

Man, glad things worked out OK, Archie!

That's the great thing about a longbow.  You always have a nice long, heavy stick in your hands...
