Cresting an arrow wrap

Anyone ever tried gilding a lilly? I have some One Stringer wraps, (a yellow & white set and a blue & white set) with "flames" and nice resting, but would like to try adding just a small amount of cresting to a One Stringer wrap without any.

I got some 9" plain copperhead wraps and then decided I would like them better with just a couple gold and black rings at the forward end and perhaps back under the fletching. Rob D', you might figure out where I got the idea      

Any suggestions? What paint or pens might work?

Scott, next time I'll do it the easy way with your "design our own" program. Just that I already have these and wanted to try it before fletching them.

I would think about anything would work if you put the double doggs over it.

Yeah, I was planning to do that. I really like the double dogs overwraps. Mine are not wearing at all.

I crested some wraps a few years ago,they were a solid color and I crested some black bands on it.I used some cresting enamel paint,worked pretty good.Only did it the one time,now I just get the Trad wraps from Onestringer.

If all you were trying to do is gold and black, I might try the Sharpie paint pens unless you have cresting paint in those colors.  Never done it before but I don't see why a paint pen wouldn't work for you.

Thanks guys. I'm in the process of setting up a cresting setup with a motor I picked up pretty cheap. I'll give it a try and post some success/failure pics.

I use acrylic paints from walmart. You have to thin them a bit with water. I just put a small amount like on a coffe lid then a very small amount of water like 2 drops. Then touch my brush in the water and then to the edge of the paint and mix to thin it. just keep doing as needed then when done double dog it and your feathers will wear out before the wrap does!

I had some leftover pieces of black wraps where I had cut some of my onestringers to length and just put the small pieses in a paper cutter and made some 1/2" bands and laid them in front of my solid wraps...I also have just crested the edge of the wraps so they wouldn't pull upward when they go across the shelf plate...The Bohning paint seems to be holding onto the wraps where they touch the edge...

I crest over Onestringer plain wraps. I use fletch Lac cresting paints I already use on my woods and alum.shafts. But I like to dip the created wraps in Gasket Laq. It allows me to use Ducco cement plus adds a little protection for the creating.
The felt pens work also as well as other color wrap material cut into strips. I tried them all. I did find the pen ink smears more than paint when arrows rub against each other in the targets.
This experimenting with different products is for me on reason I do it myself. FUN
