At the risk of appearing to be highjacking this thread, I will comment on my most recent experience to add to your experimenting and IMHO, follows with the comments I have read:
I am kindasorta going through the same process. I got the bow first (used) after chatting; picking anyone’s brain that was willing (and yes everyone at Trad Gang) was very helpful and willing to give a bit of his or her very valuable expertise. I was fortunate to have a DL within an inch of the prior bow owner, the weight rating (53#@30”) AMO 62” brace currently @ 8” and FF string. My DL is 27.5” on this bow-vs-the orig. owner’s 30” DL. He tuned in arrows: Easton XX75 Classic Alum 2216 cut at 30.75” I kept the length and arrow spec’s the same so far. I might cut down on the arrow length to 29” as I fine-tune my shooting, etc.
The point I tried to make and qualify was that the charts recommend dropping down to 2020-2213 arrows cut 28.5” to 29.5” I am however, shooting the original arrows XX75/2216/30.75” with good results. I believe as my ability increases, then I will be able to tweak and fine-tune my set-up. I don’t think I’m skilled enough yet as a Trad Archer to notice the difference.
I hope this gives you a perceptive on my enjoyable frustration to achieve the ultimate Bow-Weight-Arrow anomaly. Anyone else, please comment that might help Eric and me. Thanks in advance!
