Getting back into it need some arrow building help
« on: September 10, 2012, 12:15:00 AM »
Well I took some time off due to an old injury and now am trying to get back into the swing of things!

Sold most my gear so I just bought a pronghorn from The adds from "centaur" and look forward to my first longbow! Only shot recurve up tell this one. This pronghorn is 56@28 (which I draw 28)

I had a few question since it been awhile and I can't seem to remember much about putting arrows together ...

I'm going to get another BPE pro for my fletcher but can't recall if I had a LW or RW? I read on here that it doesn't matter unless you shot a long bow the feathers may hit your hand so would I want to get a LW setup? I'm a righty btw.

My previous setup was...
A checkmate hunter 2 that was 47@ 28 shooting Easton st epic 500's full length and 200 grain tips. With 4 3" paroblic feathers... It stacked them pretty good (for me anyways) I'm thinking I'll want 400's so I can still shoot a high FOC arrow. I want to use vpa bh's and like the solid ones. I think those are all 200 graibs and above? I also dig the zwicky BH's and use addapters to get the weight up. But would like to beable to use both of them without to much tweaking. My main reason for shooting Is for hunting and I would like to get my setup around 9.5-11 GPP

Thanks for the help and I look forward to being back on tradgang      :campfire:

Hi Bearsfeet, where in Oregon do you live? I'm in Eugene. Good to hear you're getting recovering and want to get back into archery. Don't over do it!
I think you've answered the fletching question...it doesn't really matter if they are RW or LW. Though most will say if you are RW then shoot RW fletching. Those 400's have a spine weight of about 80#'s. They should work well with 56# bow. You'll probably need 225gr upfront and cut to 29.5", or if you wanted to shoot them at 29" bop then add more tip weight.
Have fun!

Thanks for the info David... I think we talked on here about hunting in the past? My name is Levi and I'm across the river from you in springfield.

I'll try not to over do it... Especially since I'm already going to miss out on this season anyways.

Thanks
Levi
