Can I treat AD Trads like 55-75 spine?
« on: September 10, 2012, 08:34:00 PM »
I'm a little frustrated at not being able to use Stu's Calculator for the AD shafts.
Is it fair to consider the Trads as 55-75 and Trad Lites 35-55?
The AD website says both are 50-70 spine but come in at 11 gr/in and 9.5 gr/in.

Ken that's a fairly good asumption at less in my experience with them, they are great shafts. I am shootin a A&H ACS 62in which is 50@28 and I draw  28.75. I can get trads and trad lites both to fly great off the bow with a 30 in shaft just different point weight.

to be honest , the archery techie in me remains somewhat dumbfounded by those shafts as they seemed to fly beautifuly for me no matter what I did to them ... Tarz and Ted Fry both just told me to get them as they'll work fine ..
and man were they right !

best carbons out there for me and they flew the same as my GT 35-55lbs

From their website...

Arrow Dynamics shafts are built specifically for the traditional archers. Our exclusive parallel to taper offers a excellent spine to weight ratio. The Traditional Series may be used with a wide range of stickbows and longbows. The Traditional is rated for 68-95lb bows while the Traditional Lite works great for 35-65lb bows. The non-glare, wood grain finish is durable and will not wear out or fuse into targets. Made in USA!

Trad Lites spine .375...9 gpi
Trads spine .275..11 gpi

I shoot my Trads from bows ranging from 56 to 78 #s.....with heads ranging from 175 to 230 grains.  I know lots of folks that use them out of bows much less than the stated 68#s.

Not sure what bow you will be shooting these from but I can tell you I just tuned some AD Trad Lites from a 50@28 Thunderstick III, and by tuned I mean I cut to 30, fletched, and then proceeded to shot them with several different weights. Anything from 150 to 315 fly perfect. I settled on 275 grains up front, and shot fieldpoints, and broadheads to the same point. I love these shafts.

Next I am gonna tune my ACS to these arrows so I can use the same arrows for both my bows.

I wouldn't even waste money on a test kit, I bet is you post here what bow, draw lenghth and arrow weight then we could pretty much tell you what shaft will work.
God Bless

I am using the regular trads out of a 55# Tomahawk Legacy series and have no problem getting good flight from them. I plan on using the same shafts when I get my 60# Widow PL.

How quick do the AD's stiffen up? I'm considering ordering a pack cut to the shortest length that 3Rivers will do which is 27.5"... this is for my 25" drawlength. Would that be too short to tune with head weight alone? They'd be shot out of my 53#@25" Centaur Chimera.

I find you can't really compare a tapered carbon to a parallel carbon as far as spine.I think the static spine for an AD Trad was .300 and the Trad Lite was .350,I think i remember seeing that listed at one time.On my AD Trad's I changed the point weight by 50 grs. and it stills shoots right with the lighter points, very forgiving. On my Trad Lites, the same bow I shoot a .500 spine parallel I shoot a Trad Lite out of too.

I found that trad lights worked for bows I was using 5575 shafts. The trads were too shift for my 45 to 50 # bows.
