Old bows
« on: September 13, 2012, 10:15:00 PM »
I have two of the best hunting buddies anyone could ask for we have hunted together for the last 40 years. We have hunted all over the 50 states for big and small game.we also collect old archery bows and equipment. The three of us have collected over 200 bows. This year we are using older bows, 1970 older. I'm using Ben Pearson mustang, one of my freinds is using a herders, the other is using bear. We have practcing  at my house I have a bow range set up. We are having a blast we are giggling like little school girls.  We are all in are 50's my wife thinks when we get together we act like teenagers. Next year the bow has to be made from are home state Indiana.

That sounds cool.  My oldest bow is a 1973 super kodiak.  I was laying a floor for an older gentleman and we got talking about bows and we went outside and he took me in a little shed he had outside and up in the top of the shed was a dusty ol recurve.  I whipped the dust off and quickly asked him what he wanted for it.  We agreed on a price and I took it home.  I had to clean dirt daubber (spell check that) nest off the limbs.  I love the bow.  It still shoots great even though I don't shoot it much.

I have a fondness for the Ben Pearson Mustang. I shot one in 3-D competition back in about '92-93. It won out over a lot of the high dollar bows then. I haven't shot one in a while now but have about six of them on the wall. Shoot, laugh, and have a good time.

You're only a kid once. Make it last a long time.

I've been using a 62 Kodiak my Granddad bought new. It gives up nothing to today's bows.

findbows,if you make a search here or in the collectors' forum, you'll see plenty of guys still using old bows;beware it is addictive.
I love myself to hunt with old bows and I own several dozens of different makes.
Have fun.
