aiming/hitting target
« on: September 18, 2012, 07:27:00 PM »
I suck at it w/o the sight.
still trying to get the strength & not shake that much at full draw, tried using the tip of the arrow as a guide, but I shake a bit at full draw.

any tips on how to really get "instinctive" w/o cheating with a sight first?

Nothing wrong with a sight.  But what pound draw is your bow??  Shaking is often a symptom of too much weight and it is REALLY hard to learn to shoot that way.

Sorry Bud, sounds like you're pulling too much weight.

After many years I've gone down to 30lbs. Just to re-establish proper form.

If you're shaking very much decide if it is nerves or strain.

If strain, lower poundage is your friend.
The older I get, the better I was.

Look at the target, not the arrow.  Start at 10 yards and practice technique.  If you're holding the shot more than a second - let down and try again with a faster release.  Pause at anchor just a heartbeat and release.

If you hold longer you'e probably aiming.

It is hard to describe.  When you throw, you don't line everything up.  When you shoot a handgun real close,  you point it, not aim it.  When you use a pea shooter you just blow it out.

As above.  you have to look at what you want to hit,  a small piece of it, and your mind takes over.

Try making a smaller mark on your target to aim at.  The term aim small / miss small comes from that and is very real.  Stay very close until you master that range, then extend by playing.

and. .  there is nothing wrong with aiming techniques

If you want to shoot totally instinctive than shooting at the smallest spot you can see will be the best thing you can do. If you are shaking a lot though at full draw you are probably overbowed and it will be hard to learn proper technique.
