Another encounter with Breezly Bruin
« on: September 19, 2012, 10:48:00 AM »
I went hunting Friday evening, and when I got to my spot I saw that the food block I put out a week ago was gone. I have to sit on the ground because I twisted my knee real bad, and I can't climb. There was a hole in the ground where the animals continued to eat the soil.

4:50pm I catch movement off to the east of me and see a black object moving my way. He wasn't real big, about 250, but was 10yds away. It was cool. He walked around a little bit, then winded me and took off the way he came.

5:55pm I look up and standing right in front of me at 15yds is a 450 pounder. I was sitting on a rise, and never saw him come in. He starts sniffing the ground where the block used to be, then looks right at me. He snapped his teeth and rushed towards me. I stood up out of my chair, drew back the Fedora recurve and was getting ready to let loose.

He had taken about 3 steps and when I got up out of my chair and drew, he stopped. He twirled and trotted off to the east.

About 6:30pm I catch movement off to the east of me and see another bear. He looked big, so it might have been the same one which I did not think was cool, because he saw me and came back. I was growing concerned. I stayed put, but kept an eye on him. About 7:00pm he left.

In the last few years I've seen just as many bears as deer while hunting.

Does New Jersey have a bear season anymore?

There are a lot of bears in NJ and they have had a long time to grow big.  Hope you get him.
Relax,
