Why Does this Arrow Fly so Good?

I have BW Greybark, 62", 53 lbs at 30".  I draw 30 inches (most of the time).  GT Trads, 5575s, full length 32", 100gr brass insert, 145 gr field tip, 5" feathers, total weight around 560.  When I run Stu's calculator this set up should be nowhere even close, but yet the arrows fly so pretty.  Is my form really that bad?

I shoot nearly the same set up in a 52#@29 Browning and they also fly real well. Will hunt that arrow this fall with Zwickey eskimo's and have confidence in the combo. Good luck this fall.

There is a good reason why only 3 sizes of carbons-because they are so versatile(?sp) and eacdh size can be shot out of a wide range of bows-ie those 55/75 are meant to be shot out of 55-75# bows.

When you input your data into the calculator did use the instructions for accounting for insert length and weight. Before I did this my arrows were shown to be very weak but after putting the data in correctly they came out dead on what my bow needed.

If a bow is cut to past center slightly, you can get by with a wide variety of weight/spine set ups, that wont bare shaft tune, but will fly great fletched. Since I do not hunt w/barehshafts, I tune with my hunting set up. Stu's calc. is a good basis to start with, but each bow/person/shooting style/arrow rest type has a lot to do with how an arrow flys.

I haven't bareshafted it but that would be worth trying.  I shoot off the shelf and Stu's calc accounts for BW being cut past center.  I know some folks have good luck with the calculator and then there's folks like me.

I agree it's good and spot on for some of my bows but others it way off. BW's are one it's way off. Best flight is from arrows that are underspined.

I'm sure if I knew how to use the personal form factor I could get it to match up better.

I have had pretty good luck with Stu's calculator as a starting point for choosing shafts. Usually though I do end up with a weaker shaft than what shows to be perfect on there but not by much. That setup sounds like it should be close to being in tune though. It might truly be a little weak though with the arrow being full length. But if it's flying good who cares what a computer program says about what you should be shooting. Shoot what works for you.

Looking at the components/specs, it looks like a good fit to me.

I have two bows same length same weight same everything and the calculator says a specific  arrow set WILL work for both... but one bow needs (via bare shaft testing) an arrow  3/4 of an inch shorter.  The calculator got me in the ball park.  Kind of like bore sighting, but  it is only a starting point.. IMO

longer the arrow, weaker the spine especially when a heavier setup (insert and broadhead) than most. enjoy it because I am having a heck of a time getting mine to fly well!

Like Joe said it helps get in the ballpark.

Have you paper tuned or bare shafted?

You bring up a good point (individual form)that is often ignored, but nontheless critical.  The question is not so much whether it is good or bad, but that it is consistent.  It's been demonstrated repeatedly that some very good groups are shot out of shooting machines with poorly spined arrows.  Your combo doesn't sound all that unusual when you take into account the factors previously mentioned.

EXACTLY my set-up.  Same bow, draw, wt. and exact arrow set-up.  I cut them 1/4" at a time and can get them to bareshaft perfect. I am currently 30.5" draw with a 31" arrow.

Almost everything I have tuned or owned ended up that way. As long as all the inputs are correct especially the the center cut #. Right now I'm shooting a Two Tracks Longwalker.

I'm with Rob on this one.  At least 10lbs. lighter than the calculator when using carbons.
