First hunting arrow questions.
« on: September 27, 2012, 03:27:00 AM »
Ok, so I have been using O.L. Adcocks write up on arrow tuning. I am shooting full length Gold Tip hunters with a 145gr field tip. I am getting tight and consistent three bare shaft groups that are hitting tail a tad right and slightly high. If I remember right, I should be ready to fletch them up and call it tuned. I will be going on to broad head tuning next. The thing is, I am having a hard time matching the weight of the arrows with field points. My broad head arrows are 167gr. Im feeling like I need to find a way to get my field points heavier, or my broad head arrows lighter. Just looking for a little direction I guess. Either way means more shooting and that never hurts I guess. I also have a question about fletching. I was going to use 5in feathers with helical, but was wondering if a 2 degree offset would be just as good. Thanks in advance guys.

i file off and sharpen the trailing blades to lighten a head - I have a set up now where I use simmons sharks 160 gr but they come in at 168 to 172 grains no problem I sharpened the back blades and the weight perfectly matches my 160 gr field points I use for bare shaft and shooting bare bales daily

You may be a bit nock high. The optimum thing to have is a little weak and nock low. I just get mine to group right with my fletched arrows and never have any issues.

Instead of using standard screw-in field points, get some long aluminum adapters(42 grs)and some 125 gr glue-on field points.42+125=167.It's just that simple.Tune to your broadhead weight.

Well, here it is. I whipped thees up and this is the best of a 20 yard group . Roughly from the end of my drive way into my work bench in the end of my garage. this is the 145gr set up. Im going to try with my broad heads tomorrow if the weather permits.those two kicked out to the side were booth due to bad release. I caught both, as did my wife and son.

This is one I shot with my strike before I broke it. Thats why im shooting the old Wing now. Man I miss my long bow.
