Ghillie suit smell?
« on: September 27, 2012, 12:47:00 PM »
Gents,

I have purchased a Rancho Safari Ghillie suit and had a question regarding smell from materials.  I usually wash all my hunting clothes in either baking soda or a scent free detergent but didn't want to put this in the washer in fear of hurting it.

Does anyone have any good suggestions on removing the natural smells before I take it in the woods?

Thanks
Larry

They suggest burying under dirt for a few days then hand wash and hand to dry.  I did that with mine at first it did lessen the burlapy smell, I ended up just smoking it that season cause it still smelled.  Mine is a couple of years old and last week after practicing in it a and sweating up this summer just had washed and hung out to dry.  And no smell in season 2.

I wash mine once or twice a year simply by turning it inside out and on gentle cycle. I re-rinse with baking soda and hang it outside to dry. No more smell and  no harm to the suit.

I buried mine under my leaf pile for a week, then hung it outside for another.

Mine has been hang outside for 2+weeks now. Doesn't smell like anything at all anymore. One more week to go before I can get out to hunt so I guess it will sit.
