Good ole fashion flannel ?

I see a lot of threads about wool plaids, but what about good ole fashion flannel shirts or jackets?
The insulating qualities arent the same, but the patterns are very similar when it comes to blending in.
Am i wrong in thinking that flannel, could be the poor mans wool plaid ?

Flannel is great, nothing wrong with it....till you get wet. Cotton gets wet, it stays wet, when it's warm not so bad. If the temps drop your in trouble real quick. On nice days I wear it all the time, but wool is just a better choice.

In warmer climates they would be ideal.  Wool can get pretty hot here in Gawgia during the early season.

Cotton when wet can kill you! With that said, I do wear flannel shirts(plaid) when the temps are above 65 and is dry weather! Not to often here in NY, but maybe once a season!!

Call it poor man's if you will, but my plan is to hunt all season (until it gets cold enough to break out the heavy camo fleece), in plaid. While out last weekend, I had two dozen turkeys crawling on me within 15 yards, in my green and tan plaid, sitting against a tree on a rope around style seat at ground level. They never picked me out nor spooked.

Having said all this, I sssooo want an Asbell wool....

Maybe "poor mans" was a poor choice of phrase, but i brought up the question because the closest i ever got to deer was in a brown and black flannel shirt that i picked up on sale for 3 bucks, they were within 3 ft and so close that moving was out of the question.
The question was based more on patterns than on insulating qualities.

For insulation, wool is much better. As camo effect goes, there should be no difference in wool and flannel, depending on the particular pattern being used.

As far as plaids go.........plaid is plaid, don't matter if it's wool, flannel, fleece, or an old burlap bag you painted or tie died.......they all break up your outline. And they all will work if you stay still!

I wear cheap cotton flannel for deer hunting the entire early season. I'm not one of these guys that is against camo or anything but if I buy a $10 flannel shirt I can use it for both work and hunting. Works just as well as any commercial camo pattern out there.

In early season, I wear a green and black flannel that I cut the sleeves off of. Depending on the temp., I'll wear a long sleeved t-shirt or a long sleeved insulated underwear type top.  Works just fine.Later in the season, I'll go to a fleece jacket.
