arrow setups for a 54# r/d longbow

I recently purchased a Thunderhorn Coup Stick and i love it ,but I'd like to set it up with some heavy arrows. The only arrows i have that fly well out of it are Carbon Tech Rino 40/70s with 125 gr. Tips. Broadheads fly great too but the arrows are way too light. Id like to find out what other guys are shooting out of similar bows. Especially heavy arrows or efoc setups.

I draw 30" , bow is 54@28 so 57-58 at my draw.

31 inch 2117 aluminum will work well and should weigh in the neighborhood of 580 grains.

I'm shooting 56@28 pronghorn LB my draw is 28 +\\-
My arrows I am shooting are 29" 55/75 GT trad, stock inserts, 200 grain points. Think it's just under 9 GPP they fly good. Also have some Easton legacy 2018's and shooting the same 200 grain vpa broadheads they fly good... Actually I was shocked! I figured they would be way to weak with that heavy of a BH but I guress not? Not sure what the legacy's wiegh

Easton Axis 400 or Beman MFX 400 with about 175 head or the same series of shafts in 340 spine with either 200 to 250 grain heads..you will get the weight and great penetration plus if your drawing 30" then your draw eight would be closer to 60 to 62#

Outwest, the 2117s do fly nice, i may use them.
I can't shoot 400 spine arrows with more than 125gr tips (spine too soft with heavier points) and the  stock inserts. Seems too light in overall weight. My arrows have to be around 31 inches and I'm thinking i might try full length 300s with 125 gr tips/100 gr inserts.

Austin you could try some Victory archery HV350 shafts with app 300gr up front that should give you the right spine and a weight of app 550gr and a foc% somewhere north of 25%.

Stu says that you might start with GT 7595's trads with 175 grain VPAs (I added the VPA because they are a great head).  You should be able to get that to shoot.  I know you 30" DL guys can have problems finding carbons to shoot, but what a problem to have.    

You should be in the 550 grain total weight and let me tell you, 550 grains at 30" is a major KILLER.

Lots of good feedback here, abowman isn't that pretty low in gpp? I talked to my bowyer and he recommended trying 5575s with 125 gr. tips (my starting point) and he uses zero stretch strings too. So i guess he's ok with it. I think I'd prefer the feel of heavier arrows and the added punch is great too.

Abowman, I've been throwing stuff around with stus calculator its a great resource, i was tossing around a lot of 'virtual' options and thought it would be nice to see what real life setups were being used by other longarmed members of the forum.

My longbows listed below I use a CX 350 cut to 31 BOP, 100 Brass insert, and a 260-290 tip. My arrows are 870 Grains. They fly great. Im only 4/6 lbs diiferent in weight then you, but they might work just fine

Be sure to bareshaft, some of what's been mentioned sounds stiff.

AD Trad Lites are very spine tolerant and will handle just about any weight head you want to use on that bow.

Gold Tip Traditional 7595 at 31.5 inches with 100 grain brass insert and 125 grain tip, 3X5 feathers. Shoots great out of my Dwyer Dauntless at 55# and Dwyer Endeavor at 56#. Comes out 10.9 GPP with total arrow weight of 595 grains and I beleive the FOC was 18-19%.

I would go with the arrow dynamics trad series shafting. I am using them on a 55# @ 28" bow that I pull to 27.5" I have them cut at 30" with a 100 grain brass insert and 175 grain point. This totals out to around 650 grains with 20% foc. The nice things about these shafts is I can vary point weight from 150 to 200 grains.

I am setting up a Java Man Assuryian 60"(shrew scout) recurve. 61@30. Currently trying out GT 7595 trad arrows 31"bop. 100 grain brass inserts and 125/145  points. Seem to be doing well but need more testing. I screwed a 200 gr point into the arrow and it seemed to shoot good as well. So ???? The spine calc reads that the 125 point works with this set up but I'm liking the heavier tips. Little quieter and hits more where I'm looking.

just be aware, GT 7595's with 350 grains up front are spined perfectly for me. I draw 32 inches with a 55' @28" Toelke whip which is also a reflex/deflex design. I think you will need a LOT of weight up front if you use .300 spine arrows. I would go with GT 5575's and trim the arrow until it will bareshaft well with a 100 grain insert and a 150 grain tip. But that is just my opinion.

For a heavy setup.  Try AD Trads with 100 gr insert and 200 gr. Heads. That should give you around 650 gr.
I use these with my Bob Lee #60@28". I pull 27".
I can't say enough good things about the AD Trads and Trad Lites.  They are the easiest arrow in the world to tune.

i have shot trad lites for several years. I try to stay around 550 gr. A 100 gr. brass with 175 gr. heads puts me right at 550. I cannot say enough good things about them. This year i shot douglas fir from Snag. These too are right at 550 gr. with 125 up front. They too are amazing arrows on all aspects. Snag does an outstanding job, and the performance of his arrows shows that on all counts. My bows are 50-55lb and i pull about 27".
