Earl Hoyt Jr Trophy Longbow (new Sky Trophy)
« on: October 14, 2012, 04:31:00 PM »
When I first started into the trad journey, my local shop had two trophies for sale.  One 69" and one 63". I was worried about hunting with a 69" bow and the 63" bow was too much weight.  But I would shoot that 69"er every saturday morning.  And every time I was about to pull the trigger and buy it.  These bows are beautiful, stable, and flat out shoot.  They along with the Bear Montana are what hooked me on the "D" shaped longbows.  And for me personally I still do not like the looks of the aggressive hybrids.

Fast forward to about 4 weeks ago and I finally got my hands on a 66" 55@28 Trophy.  And this bow is everything I have ever wanted.  I have talked to Jim Belcher quite extensively on his new model and had the privilege to shoot one for a few hours at my local shop.  Jim is using the same molds that Earl Hoyt used and these new Sky trophies are amazing.

Personnally I wish the new ones were made with the same camp action wood and the brown action wood of the old ones, but none the less the black glass and black locust models Jim is producing are things of beauty.  And at only $389 they are a steal of a price.

You notice a lot of "what bow for a beginner" threads and I can say  with out reservation if someone wants a classic looking LB that performs with the best of them it is hard to beat the 66" Sky Trophy. and If you want to try a 64" LB I suggest the Bear Montana every time.

If anyone is in the market for a new LB I suggest you give the Sky Trophy a try.  Luckily for me living 15 min away from STL (Earl Hoyts hometown) there are a lot of old Skys for sale here on CraigsL****l.  But even at full price they are well worth it.

  Glad you found what you were looking for in a longbow!
