I need to know what yall have experienced.  I am looking for some youth bows for my boys.  The oldest is 8, but big for his age, the youngest is 6, average size.

I am looking for a 52"-56" bow for my oldest, maybe 40#@28.  He will only draw about 24" so it still will be very easy for him to shoot.

The youngest needs a 48"ish bow in about the same weight.

I realize that sounds heavy for the youngens, but they shoot A LOT, as much or more than most guys.  Almost everyday.  If weather permits, maybe 100 shots a day.

The bows they shoot now are getting light for them.  My oldest is shooting a Prodigy 25@24" and the youngest is shooting a Pup, 20#@20".  The Pup is acutally a heavier bow than the Prodigy.

Thanks in advance for the help!

Nathan

Nathan,
I just pick up a 40# 58" Bear Grizzly on the big auction site for $135 that's like new from the early 70's. Some that I've watched there are 56" Grizzly models.  I've seen some here to for similar prices from time to time.  I've shot this Grizzly and it's a great shooting bow.  I've also seen some Browning Nomad Stalkers and Fury's on the bigsite for similar prices.  Big Jim also just listed some new Bear Bows in lower weights that might fit too.  Also, St. Joe River bows (see sponsor section here) has some 20-24#@24" bows on their website that are reasonable for kids. I think they are 48" bows and would work nicely for your youngest.

The only reason I have not picked up an old Bear for them is the grip.  I don't think their hands will handle it.

I have checked out some Maddog bows.  They sure look like them might fit the bill.  I just want to look over all options before I make a purchase.  I want to have them going on the right trail...

The LOML has a GN Field Bow.  I think they are excellent.  They only come in 60" though and it is a longbow.  Dont know if you are looking for longbows or recurves.  They can be ordered from 30-45 and start at a reasonable $325.

I dont think I would look anywhere else for a youth longbow.  Great Northern did well on this one.

Tracey and Dave over at St. Joe River Bows are good people.    ;)

I know they have a great selection of youth bows in stock right now in a wide variety of woods and weights.
Just one more step please!

Probably a Samick Sage. Cheap but shoots well and you can upgrade in poundage on the limbs for only $70.

I like the St Joes. Got some for my nephews, shoot well, look good, good price, good customer service, lots of options.

Black Rhino is another great choice and they have a trade in policy when it's time to upgrade again.  They are a sponsor here.   www.bows.net
