Danged Hill styles.........

Danged Hill styles have spoiled me for anything else.
I took a couple of my R/D bows out this evening to knock the dust off of them, and even though they are fast, consistent, quiet, no hand shock and great shooters, they just dont have the appeal of a Hill style for me.
For the Hill style fans out there, what is it that draws you to this style?
I think for me, its simple basic design, and they handle like a wand, that in conjunction  with being deadly quiet, just seems to work for me.

What you said plus shooting them just seems like "real" archery to me.

I love the way a nice straight grip fits my hand. But mostly cause of the way they look, and shoot. Started out shooting english longbows, with tons of shock. So to me i dont feel shock from them at all. Plus they seem to point better. Kinda like askin why someone likes baseball, impossible to say. But good question

I know the feeling.  Once I started shooting a hill longbow, I went and like you grabbed couple of my r/d bows, just didn't feel right.  something just was out of place.  Mr. Hill must of had an idea what he was doing.

I dunno what it is - maybe a 'bug' that bit me somehow but the pleasure of shooting them and (unfortunately for my bank balance) of collecting them is totally unique! :-)

There was a post similar to this not long ago. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who is enthralled by the Hill bows without really being able to give a coherent explanation. I guess it is true, they are just magical.

They just look cool, and I like the way they shoot.  If I shoot one of my other bows it just dosn't have the same enjoyment factor.

Looks great, easy to string, easy to carry, easy to shoot, light in the hand, shoots where you look, a true hunting weapon. All my other bows are jealous.

They look like a bow.  Others don't.  

I also own vintage shotguns, outboard motors & boots.

If I wanted a shiny plastic looking shotgun, I'd have purchased the newest models.

If I wanted a plastic outboard, I'd have bought a new one.

New boots? Can't stand that plastic looking stuff on them.  I'll stick with my real leather boots.

Hill style bow, plaid wool shirt, Filson vest,Bean boots and Stormy Krommer. You get the point. Basic yet incredibly functional as well as classic.

I shot a Bear Kodiak the other day.  It felt like I was shooting a compound or something.

Seriously though, the grip felt awful in my hand.  It felt like I was going to break my wrist during the draw.

I started shooting Hill type bows 45 years ago. I tried a recurve and a D/R longbow but it wasn't the same for me. The bow just feels like a part of me. The gentle thump feels alive in my hand. A Hill bow,backquiver chocked full of wooden arrows...........
and I am truly blessed.
