Congrats and I agree with your observations as to the effect of hunting with a stick and string...especially on ground.
I am always close to deer and animals...getting a shot is another story but there would be no question of shooting and filling every single doe tag and another half dozen bucks every year whether with hi-power rifle, traditional blackpowder, or even my Ruger SuperBlackHawk pistol.....getting within 30-60 yards has become commonplace....getting them within 18yds not so much. Though this year had multiple does at 5 yards before the tags were legal....so we keep trying.
