Ground hunting , time to get creative
« on: October 25, 2012, 06:02:00 PM »
With the corn coming down and the lower elevation foliage nearly gone, the ground hunting game is getting tougher.
What do you ground hunters do as fall makes its way towards winter?

I just make sure to have plenty of cover behind me. I have discovered that the cover behind me is alot more important than what's in front. I try to use what is available, like tree tops of blow downs, banks of creek beds, etc... Don't like to build anything because it is to obvious to people passing through. Love the ground game! Have no desire to be in a tree!

Good hunting,
Jason

I have put foliage on the bow. Sometime I use fake leaves from the craft stores. It gives you something to set behind without getting in the way.

Made ground blinds earlier.......blow downs will work .

I sat in a make shift ground blind this weekend. It was a lot of fun

I backed up i to a cactus and mesquite thicket. I laid a dead log in front and added some grass and dead limbs to break up the area.  Worked really well. Had lots of deer and turkey around.

I agree with Covey, solid heavy cover behind is more important than in front.
