No venison, but an amazing experience!
« on: October 26, 2012, 11:43:00 AM »
What an amazing morning. I hit the timber well before daylight and got settled in my stand on the bank of a river. After watching a couple flocks of wood ducks whistle past, and seeing a redtail hawk disappear out of sight in pursuit of something delicious, I pulled out my rattling antlers and did a little light sparring.

About ten minutes later I catch some movement out of the corner of my eye, and turn to see a solid 13 point buck making his way down the bank in my direction. I waited as he walked along, and started to draw as he walked behind a tree. I was about 3/4 drawn when he spotted me as he walked into my shooting lane. He didn't seem to be to worried about me, just trotted off about 30 yards and went walking off.

Still looking for my first traditional kill, but what a great experience. I had a solid 13pt buck that I'd guess at 3.5 years at 8 yards this morning. Definately a hunt i'll never forget!

It is awesome to get them on bow range, even if you don't get a shot. Will pump you up for the weekend, that's for sure!

I understand!

There's something special about the feeling that you've done something right in order to bring a deer into your view.

Play that scenario over and over looking for the lesson.

Then take the lesson and apply it and next time things might turn out differently for both you and your buck.

God bless,Mudd
