I was able to get to the woods this evening for a short hunt. Parked about 3/4 of a mile from my stand and gathered my gear for the short walk in.
Had a really pleasent sit and saw a young 8 point and a few does but was really hoping for pigs.. Just wasn't to be this evening though.
At dark I got down and fished around in my haversack for my little headlight. While walking out in the dark I always like to be able to see the ground as it's still warm here and snakes are out..
I was almost to the truck when a few small pigs ran though my light into an opening off to the left.. I had already unstrung my bow but it doesn't take long to string a longbow. I slipped an arrow onto the string and eased forward a few steps. The pigs were about 20 yards and got nervous and start trotting to my left. I swung on the closest one and shot in one smooth motion.. Actually shot faster than I normally do.
The arrow had white fletching and I watched it flit through the pigs ribs.. The CE250 was wearing a 170 Grizzly Kodiak.. The bow is a 68" Hill that is 59 lbs at my draw length..
Is this stuff fun or what !!!
BTW, it is legal to shoot pigs with the aid of artificial light in Texas and many other states.
