Carbon Questions

Hello everyone, I have some questions about carbon arrows and was wondering if I could get some opinions.  I usually shoot aluminum arrows (2018)but the local pro shop carries Gold Tip carbons.  First of all, are these good arrows?  They suggest that I shoot either the 35-55 or 55-75 shaft.  I shoot 53 # at 28 draw and use 150 grain broadheads (field points).Usual arrow length of 29 1/2 inches.  Is there any reason that I should stay away from carbon or is it a matter of preference?

I would think the 35-55s would work.  Don't cut them down until you bare shaft though, or you may be sorry.

Ya cannot give advice without knowing the set-up, longbow, recurve #age and is it cut to or past center. Shawn

You can probably get them to shoot just fine. I would get a couple(if they sell them in singles), start full length and play with arrow length and tip weight until they fly true. If you can't get them to fly properly, then you won't be out for a whole dozen.

I shot the 75/95's for years from a compound and they were great arrows, a dozen should last you a long time unless you hunt rocks.

Sorry Shawn, I shoot a Rose Oak Puma Hunter recurve (60") - 53# @28 - arrow length of 29 3/4" - flemish B50 string - 150 grains up front -
would the 35-55 arrows be heavy enough or would I need to use weighted inserts?

Geoff,

I think the 3555 will be too weak with 150 grain broadheads.  Also, the carbons will be much lighter.  The GTs are 8.6 grains per inch and the 2018 12.3gpi.  the difference would be 80 grains.

My friends use 5575 with a 100 grain brass insert and then the broadhead.  They fly very well.  The insert gets the weight up to the aluminum and gets the dynamic spine down.  The big FOC really makes them fly great.  Start with them full length and bare shaft.  The 5575 is 9.3gpi.
