Just too lazy
« on: November 10, 2012, 03:02:00 PM »
I am just too lazy to hunt today.  It was raining hard this morning and now it is blowing 15-20 and it looks like more rain.  I must admit between work and hunting I am tired and need a day off.  In the back of my mind, I feel bad because I know you can't kill one sitting in the house.  Anyone ever just feel too tired to go hunting?

You should enjoy it is the bottom line,. Sitting here myself debating climbing the mountain in 70degree sunny weather. I guess I will take my time and go. Couple times that I debated and went, seen a monster.

Yeah that was me this morning. Also had to many household chores to do. Let's see clean the gutters, sweep the chimney, clean boiler, new soap dispenser at kitchen sink, split firewood.

Would have been easier to just go deer hunting?

Definitely!!
Right now I am taking classes to become a special education elementary teacher. Between that, kids activities and working overtime, a day off on the couch isn't bad, LOL!

Hunting when your overly tired leads to bad hunting practices. When I'm not there mentally, my hunting can get sloppy.

Sounds like a good day to go over your equipment, make sure your broadheads are sharp, maybe do some shooting in the back yard.    ;)
Just one more step please!

Woke up at 4:30 this morning with the intention of hunting. Was simply too tired. I have a six week old son to attend to. He mostly sleeps through the night but he kept me up till midnight. I don't want to hunt when I am not energized. Too much potential for a risky shot.

Years ago when I started hunting I never missed an opurtunity, wet, cold, hot, it did'nt matter. Then one time a few years back, I was out hunting on a truely miserable day. I ask myself why am I out here? I hunt for the fun and enjoyment, and this is no fun. I got out of my stand and went home. Oh I still hunt on some not so nice days, but I'm more selective now. My time spent in the woods is ment to be a time away from everyday struggles. Animals seen or not just a good day to be out. If you get something that just makes it even better.

Yup!  I woke up the other morning at 0430 to perfect hunting conditions but just couldn't bring myself to get out there, ended up just practicing in the yard for 2 hours later in the morning, haha, no foul in that, just means when I do get out I'll be all the more ready!

I do that once in a while. I love to hunt but I still want it to be fun and enjoy it. If I am really tired I find I cannot sit still while in a stand. I fidget and my attention is not there. Sometimes you just need to relax and recharge to get back out there.

I agree with Soap Creek, I used to be that way with hunting and fishing I would go out in any type weather blizzards, monsoon rains gale force winds nothing stopped me! It finally dawned on me to "what the hell am I doing here" still go out hunting more than not but I won't be miserable any more! I must be getting older and hopefully wiser!

We modern hunters don't "need" to hunt and it is supposed to be fun.  If you're tired and the weather sucks, it ain't fun. But I know what you mean about feeling bad for not going.

I used to push and hunt if I was enjoying it or not, you know had to kill one. any more if I find myself hot having a good time, I go do something else, guess I realized I was doing if for fun, so when its not fun, I do something else.

I have that problem more often than i like to admit.
Our daily grind thru the week starts at 4 am every morning, and ends at about 6 pm. so its nice to sleep in a couple hrs. at least one morn. out of the week. But even with that i cant help but wonder what i may have missed out on.   :banghead:

yep work 3-11. Getting up after daylight savings time is a killer.

Yesterday the temps were in the single digits to teens, with wind blowing 30mph and snow coming down sideways. This morning it was below zero, but by tomorrow it is supposed to get back in the 30s. I have gotten too soft to go out in single digits, so I will be back out tomorrow . The deer will still be there, and I won't turn into an ice statue (maybe).

I did the same thing this morning. Woke up, let the dogs out, saw the rain and climbed back in bed. Some days it's best to listen to your body and recharge with some rest.

Yep a day off can give you a renewed inspiration.
I've even done it on wilderness hunts for elk.  Sometimes you need a little down time when you've been pushing hard.

I have a construction deadline looming.  Working extra shifts at my age puts me at an attention disadvantage.  Need that, so I took Saturday off so i could work Saturday night.  Yes, take a day off to refresh yourself, it may pay dividends
