Bubba and his Slammer connect
« on: November 13, 2012, 05:14:00 PM »
My 16y/o son, Erik, (nicknamed Bubba by his sisters) and his Leon Stewart Slammer (62" 40@28") connected with a spike last night. His first deer harvest.
The spike came into his  shooting lane from his left and was about ten yards out. Bubba made a "clicking"  sound w/ his mouth, the spike stopped. Bubba let his Magnus Stinger (150gr 2 blade) tipped arrow fly. The arrow struck the spike high and farther back, then he intended. Yet, both lungs were pierced. He texted me, the "gash" the broadhead left was huge. The arrow pierced the far side of the deer and fell out just before the spike bedded down.
The spike circled behind Bubba and bedded down, about 40 yards out.

Bubba been shooting longbow about 8 years, following me to local and weekend 3d shoots. Last year was the first time he showed an interest in hunting. Took the hunter safety course, but only went out a couple times. His passion is ice hockey (plays travel and high school) and of course runs concurrently w/ deer season. He didn't want to miss hockey practice/games/clinics.
He skipped ice hockey practice last night. When we got home he asked "when we going out for does?" I think he's hooked.

This spring Bubba won a Sika deer hunt raffle by PA Longbow Ass., going in 2013. He said he wanted to harvest a white-tail deer first and he did. Look out Sika deer
