Hi guys,
I am still somewhat new to archery and you guys are so helpful and amazing. I am buying a reflex defex longbow and need help deciding between 64 and 66 inches. I am 6 foot 3 and a half and have a draw length of 30 inches. i will mostly be doing target shooting but will want to hunt in the future also. mostly trying to hunt on ground. the bow maker thinks a 66 is good but i just want to get some more input. thanks

For a 30 inch draw, the 66 will probably better serve you. The bowyer would know the characteristics of his design. I would go with his recommendation.

You won't notice a difference with the 2 extra inches .
That is one on each end.
Only time a long long bow can be a,problem is in a tree stand that someone cleared that shot a short bow.
With your height and draw the longer the better even 68 inches.

A bow that long won't bother you when hunting. As a general rule, we have to trim shooting lanes etc anyway. Sometimes you will need to cut a bit extra, but you would likely have to do that anyway at your height as compared to a smaller guy.

This depends on what type of reflex deflex longbow it is. For instance a Dwyer original is r/d and I would go with the 66" in that style that strings up to a D shape. The Toelke whip is r/d but more so than the Dwyers style. With the whip type of profile, you could easily go to 64" or even 62". I have the same draw as you and shoot a 66" D bow and shorter r/d longbows.

Hey Bart,
It kind of depends on the limb design you choose. Like centaur was saying here the bowyer will definitely let you know which model with suit you best.
You can get a 60" bow that draws sweet clear out to 32". here's an example.
This is a 60" Sasquatch drawn to 33" which is the stacking point on this one. look at the string angle where it comes into the limb tips.....
Now this one is a milder R/D 64" long bow draw to only 28" the staking point on this bow is 0nly 29,5"

Longer bows tend to be a bit more forgiving, especially for longer draw lengths like yours. Being new at this, it would be to your advantage to start out giving yourself as much of an edge as possible. With experience, you will be able to better decide if the shorter length makes a big enough difference for you. Good luck.

I draw 30" and I like
recurves
of 66". Definately go with the longer bow!

66" and that extra 2" in the woods is not even an issue. Enjoy

I'm 6'3" with a 30.5" draw and although I can't speak to longbows I own 3, 66" recurves and they fit me perfect. I don't think I'd want to go shorter.

Kirkll is correct it will depend on bow design and your your preference. As an example we have guys shooting our 64" Longbows with a 32" draw with no problems. So go with the bow and bow length that works best for the way you will be using it.
