OK, Jake, let me take a stab at answering your question about which test kit to choose--you say the bow draws 45#@28" and that your draw with a compound was 28" with back tension release.  Most compound shooters will lose about an inch in draw at least going to a traditional bow, so I'm gonna' guess your draw will be around 27" on the recurve.  That will put your draw eight at about 42-43# (you generally drop about 2-3# of draw weight for each inch below 28" of marked weight at 28").  So you definitely want to go with Test Kit A which is two arrows each of spines that range between 35-55#.  That should easily put you in the ball park even if you wind up pulling the bow to the 28" mark.

I have great results shooting woods for stumping.  Sure you're going to bust one from time to time, but that's all part of it.  You bend and break carbons too.   :D    But they don't smell nearly as good as Port Orford cedar does.  That sweet smell of cedar makes breaking one a whole lot less painful.
haha, David this is very true about Carbon breaking. I think I'm sold on woodies for now. As soon as I get the bow in hand, I'm going to double check my DL and get a arrow length and go ahead and order some arrows. I myself thought kit B would be better, but not only did you agree with the A, but I had called a associate at 3 Rivers about a hour ago and he too said kit A seemed to be the better choice.

I'm pretty stoked and can't wait to start shooting! Last thing I'm lookin into is about form, just reading on what I should be striving for when shooting. When I shot with "training wheels"not to brag, but I considered muself to have pretty good form.

Thanks again David, looks like I'll go with A!

Yeah man, full range, target buttes out to 80 yards and full 3d's around the corner, it's a lot of fun  :)

Most compound shooters I have watched have really good form, you should do fine with a little practice and some buddies to shoot with.

I pretty recently made the switch also. And though I agree with Bjorn, let me tell you... Having great form with a compund and maintaining great form with zero let off and no wall, are two very different things.  :)

Enjoy!

Yea I figured so, hopefully with the lower poundage I won't have to hard of a time with form... I think the challenge for me will being able to have that "flow" like draw.

Thanks for the info though!

One thing that took me a little bit to learn: An arrow is like a bullet that sometimes, God decides to give you back. Look diligently for lost arrows, but don't obsess over them.  Celebrate the broken ones for the good times they gave you and the pretty new ones that will replace them.

Brother I can't help ya there. I had a harder time leaving an arrow than buying new ones. I'd look to the point of exhaustion. 3d was a heartache for me until I started refining my accuracy by stumping. At least stumping heads tend not to bury themselves underground without a trench to follow. Most ridiculous 3d memory was missing a not so small elevated target with my heavy recurve. The arrow sailed over the target by a foot and through the tree tops. I might never have found it except several archers described hearing a "freight train" going through the treetops and slam into a tree about a hundred yards away and fall down. Found it leaning against a tree plain as day in some of the thickest foliage you've ever seen. Sometimes, God gives them back. I made sure to give thanks that day because there was just no way I found it on my own. I was having an off day and was talked into taking the shot and it all worked out in the end.

I do beleive I would have framed that arrow along with a picture of the 3D target... I imagine it would make a even better story in person, lol. I do agree with you there, I've spent countless HOURS looking for lost arrows... Now that I'm taking the leap into the "stick" world, I imagine I'll feel a little more "upset" about lossing them. Like you said, take it as the Lord gives em.
