Arrow Shaft Colors
« on: November 30, 2012, 06:57:00 PM »
For those of you who dye or stain their shafts what colors do you like the best and and what kind of dyes/stains are you using?  For those of you who do dye--do you put some sort of hi viz cap on and if so what are you using for that?
thanks, rick

I like minwax stain in ebony for dark slick looking arrows. Id use arrow wraps for the cap as it makes feather removal easier without damagin the shaft.

I use Minwax ebony and provincial stains on my POCs.  I seal and crest with Bohning lacquers.  Crown dip is about 9 inches of Bohning white lacquer.

My favorite is Three Rivers Pecan alcohol based for the shaft and Fiebings yellow leather dye for the crown.  They show up well (especially with yellow fletch) and look good IMHO.

I wipe on and use a crest to hide the seam/overlap between the two stains

Those look good Charles! I have not been cresting my arrows--I have done some with black and orange Rit dye and just kinda let the colors fade into each other--they look ok but I'm  looking for something that kinda jumps out at ya--I like yours--they look good.

Thanky.  Over the stain is MinWax wipe-on polyurethane.  Then the cresting is permanent Sharpie markers and Pilot metallic ink pens.  Fast, cheap and simple.  And they hold up well.
