Why Axis Traditionals over other shafts?
« on: December 12, 2012, 11:30:00 AM »
I used carbons many years ago but have been useing woodies ever since. I wanted to use some again so i ordered Goldtips from BigJim.

I havent kept up with all of the new carbons so i have no idea what has changed.

Are these Axis actually any tougher? It says they produce more KE and have better penetration?...because they are a little bit smaller diameter?

Are they really that much better to cost so much more???

Thanks for the info!

All you can do is kill the game you are shooting at. Another marketing ploy in my opionion. Where will it all end and it ever increasingly creeps into tradional archery. Carbon has its place but like I said all you can do to a deer is kill it. Starting to see the more more more mentality targeted at us way too often.

Easton Axis shafts have been around for a while in the traditional black carbon color.  They are narrow diameter, like Carbon Express MFXs, less than 5/16 inches, which is the standard for most carbons. I do believe the smaller diameter increases penetration, but it's not really needed on deer size game.  The smaller diameter shafts, because they lie closer to a bow's center when on the shelf, may be easier to tune, but I don't think that's a biggie either. Because of the smaller diameter, their walls are slightly thicker, which may increase toughness.  Don't know.

A number of carbon manufacturers have been putting brownish wood grain patterns on their shafts and calling them traditional. A marketing ploy for sure. Easton is just the latest to do it with their Axis shafts. I don't shoot carbon much, but when I do, black works just fine for me.

I like the Beman MFX Classics and the 400's fly perfect with my broadheads. Now Easton which is Beman discontinues the MFX Classics and I got to start all over again finding the right shaft that will be even more expensive most likely.

I know they discontinued them just so people will have to buy more arrows. From what I've read and heard a lot of people like the MFX Classics.

They are fantastic arrows. Very tough, nice weight, and there are a couple different inserts options. I got a new set of Axis Trads and I love em too. Shoot just like my other Axis arrows but look awesome. I have definitely found them easier to tune as well, especially with a high FOC. I found a way to use G nocks in them so I don't have to use X nocks which is awesome as well.

You made a good choice ordering the GT's from big jim. you can almost buy 3 dozen of those for the cost of the new axis trads.

I like the inexpensive shafts also, but do enjoy some of the more expensive ones as well. I guess it is all personal choice.
I certainly sell more of the cheaper ones but it is a free country. Free for the manufacturer to produce and charge what they want, and free for the consumer to purchase or not.

I loved the MFX and have lots of them. But, the new Axis Trad will be my first line arrow.  Would a less expensive arrow get every job done I need...surely.

well, looks like i'll be selling some brand new MFX's when they arrive.
no point tuning them then having to change shafts again after a dozen arrows and then retuning.

ST axis n-fused it is then.

For what these new Axis shafts cost I would rather spend a few dollars more and shoot FMJs. It is nice they put this one out in a 600 though.

I still have some 600's and some 340's left on sale. They are cheap. They are sure to have a few left on close out too. Besides that, there is probably no apreciable difference between the mfx and the axis.
