It was a good read. However, I wish the main character had not took another man's wife in the end. But maybe the Character will make it right in the next one.

Same for me great read but I was let down with the ending. He felt so bad over the wounding of a animal but seemed joyful to take another man's wife,Moral priority's out of balance there.Pastor Paul.

Thanks guys for the comments. I do appreciate them. As my email sign off says: "There are boundless benefits to the perspectives of others."

I would caution, respectfully, to reread the ending. Now for the spoiler alert but we've already opened that door. Gordon, having left Lucas and Lise behind, near the end of the book actually states (by thoughts to himself which appear as dialogue) that he has "left them behind, not wishing to interfere in their lives ever again." He doesn't see her again until she appears... well... you know where, at which point it is clear that it was her decision. If you read the FREE on line after story it is clear that he is happy to have her around (yes I'm being vague so as not to completely spoil it for others) but if you did read that, it is plainly clear that he does not sleep with her as the situation is not good. He even offers her accommodations far from his. Gordon is not in the least bit a perfect character, he struggles with right and wrong throughout the book as I portray him as imperfect. I state very early in the novel a quote from a Spiritual and Self Help Author, Dan Millman, "No experience is ever wasted because every experience contains a lesson. The lessons of experience are always positive, even if the experience is not."    There are many good and many bad experiences in the book, all contain lessons, the deciphering what is right and wrong I leave to the reader.
Thanks so much for the conversation, the perspectives, I do appreciate your opinion.
Sincerely,
Brad Isham

Well done Brad! With such vivid descriptions of events and knowing it is a novel, I was often left thinking which experiences were solely yours. Ha!  I'm glad to hear you were awarded for your efforts. Mike

The book is fiction based upon fact like an old Hemingway novel. The sad thing is, after writing the ending, I got in touch with my old friend who is (portrayed as Lucas in the book) and with out my knowing, the events actually happened quite similar to what I had written. Anyone who has worked in the outdoor or hunting industries knows how hard it can be to balance that with a marriage/family. The lesson here, learned from bad experience, is be kind and loving, listen to your wife and remember she has needs you may lose sight of sometimes in your effort to succeed and or provide. Eyes wide open fellas, not just a narrow focus on hunting. I did have quite a feel good, religious ending too but in the end I opted to stick with the real events. Maybe it was a mistake, I'll never know. As for me. My own father was a degenerate drinker, gambler, and had other issues too. I learned at an early (he passed away when I was 19) what not to do by his example and I don't. I have been happily married for 21 years, I carry my fathers good traits and reject his bad. As I see it there was one true hero in the book, Daniel. The rest...flawed like us all. Merry Christmas! B~
