NC Hunting ?
« on: August 19, 2007, 11:57:00 AM »
Hello all,
I am new to North Carolina, I have moved to Clayton, and I would love it if someone who live in the state could offer guidance or help in a place or places to deer hunt. I am primarily an Archer with a touch of muzzleloading in there. I am not against paying a reasonable fee to hunt on private land but not for the prices I have seen so far.

A little background on my hunting, I have spent 99% of my time chasing Mule deer and Blacktail in California, with the 1% hunting in Texas. Thanks in advance. My e-mail is [email protected].

Most hunting clubs are going to cost from 400-700 dollars per year, depending on the facilities available. NC has decent game lands that are great to hunt on during the week when the crowds are not out. A small jonboat or canoe will get you to some great hunting spots that others cannot access at Jordan, Harris, and Falls lake gamelands. Keep you eyes open for ads in the News and Observer Classifieds section for hunt club openings. Also try Craig's List, an online classified page. Here is a link to NC's gamelands maps and legend:

i agree with abel, jordan i know for sure has an archery zone. i think most of the game lands in the state has archery only zones if thats your ultimate goal. but jordan is closer to me and thats all i know. you can google it to get some info on it.

Well,

If you are stationed at Seymour; you should look me up. We have a few trad shooters in the area and I'm going down east for a hunt opening weekend with other tradgang members.

Hello All, Thanks for the info. 42WLA I just retired so I am not stationed at SJ. I saved the link which helped. Able I will call when I get some free time, as I really need to learn how to hunt Whitetail and what the norm is for here.

Good for you. I'm retiring next spring. After 23 years I'm ready. Check out this thread and come on down.

Skip to the last few pages to see plans for this year. It will be my first time bowhunting in NC. I got back into archery a year ago after many years.

Also check out the NCDeer Talk forums. They post club opening too.

Abel and 42WLA gave you a good link.

Clubs around here are are $600 to $10,000 a year. Wherever you 'fit' in.

  :bigsmyl:

I know a $650 club with an opening.
Let me know if you come over to Halifax County.
I'm retired and usually around and my daughter and her husband recently moved to Clayton.
Hurry up and build a shootin'range for when I'm in town.

Get the game land map book from the Wildlife website (ncwildlife.org), or they usually have them at WalMart.  Lots of good game land around (Jordan Lake, Falls of Neuse, Sharron Harris etc...).  Quite a few archery only zones as well.

Look for briar thickets and other nasty thick spots and thats where the deer are.  If there's a crop field or backyard garden (or backyard) nearby ... that's where they're going to.

Were trying to get a few tradgangers together for a hunt in the eastern part of the state. Opening day is Sept 8th. Myself and a few others will be there, some all week .....we would love have you join in if youre interested. We will be hunting public land with lots of game, mostly deer and feral pigs.
I'm not too far away from you here in Goldsboro, Seymour Johnson AFB area.
Theres quite a few public game lands near here(within 1 1/2hrs.drive ).When you pick up your license you should get a game lands map book, there nice to have.
Let me know if wanna hunt with us...the way i shoot, we'll need all the help we can get .
Take care friend!
Tim
